The Keys To Success In A Home Business

Like any business, a home business needs to be nurtured in order for it to be successful. You can't just sit back and hope that it is going to take care of itself, and the single action of having a website and submitting it to search engines to allow potential customers to find it is going to do the trick. No matter what you may have been told, there is no business that is going to make money for you without you having to do some work to make it happen. Yes, they teach you about residual income in network marketing, but even that residual income in based upon hours, months, and possibly years of very hard work promoting, training, advertising, and learning in a continuous cycle until you have attained the level within the organization where you can sit back and let the business work for you. Rental property is another area where many people mistakenly believe they can sit back and let someone else do the work, but again, this is something that only happens after years of doing things yourself in order to reach the point where you can afford to pay someone to take care of everything for you.

How does all of that tie in to the keys of success for a home business? It means that you have to work hard in order to be successful. One of the mistakes that many people make with a home-based business is they fail to see it as a business and put it second in line after doing all of the other things they want to do. Even though you are not working in an office, you still have a business that needs your attention, so you have to devote time to doing just that. That means if your best friend calls and wants you to go shopping, you have to make sure she understands that you still have a job, even though you are working at home. Does that mean you neglect family and friends? No, of course not, but you have to set aside certain hours to work on your business just as you would if you were going to work each day. That doesn't mean that you have to work 8-5 each day, but you do need to put in the amount of hours necessary in order to do the things that are required.

It's also important to set aside a certain amount of time to do nothing but network and business promotion. You can do this by email, website promotion, passing out business cards in your local area, making up fliers to send out, or any number of other ways. The important thing is that you must have an organized method of networking if your business is going to be successful. In summary, the key points are:

(1) Treat your business as if you were going to work each day
(2) Have an organized criteria for what you need to do daily
(3) Build your business with the knowledge you will always have to be involved in order to maintain success.

Can My Dream Job Really Be In Network Marketing?

By Steve Kania

Most of us dream about one day attaining financial freedom or working from home. At the same time most of us are risk-averse and resist change only feeling comfortable if each day presents us with good ole status quo. If this is the year that you told yourself that you’re going to change all that then this is the year that you should start your own business. Owning your own business can be very rewarding. There’s just something about that entrepreneurial rush you get when your success completely depends upon your efforts and your decisions. Of course there are risks and there are startup costs and everyone including your brother in-law is telling you that you will fail. I’m telling you, “So what!” Every successful business faced risks, startup costs and naysayer’s. You can always find reasons or obstacles not to do something but wouldn’t you rather put your efforts towards committing to one action that moves you closer to your dreams? The point of this article is simply to motivate you into exploring another option for owning your own business. The option I’m referring to is network marketing…yes I said it, network marketing.

There was no way while sitting through all of my MBA courses that I could have envisioned myself in network marketing which is essentially a business model completely unmentioned in my ten of thousands of dollars of advanced schooling. Well all of that changed after I stumbled upon the right opportunity not just for myself but also for my family. Part of network marketing’s appeal is that the profile of success can be anyone, blue collar or white collar, man or woman, young or old, prior business experience or no business experience, any education level and any nationality. The product and the pay plans are the same for everyone so the only variable determining one’s success is you. People from all backgrounds have found success in network marketing and determining who will become successful or not is absolutely impossible because the only commonality among those that have found success in network marketing is determination…so don’t rule yourself out. Network marketing is an attractive business option because you can avoid large startup costs such as franchise fees, leases and equipment costs. Network marketing also has very low cost of entry, with the potential for exceptional revenue. One thing that you should keep in mind is that network marketing is not a get rich quick scheme. These are legitimate part-time businesses that will require consistent effort from you in order to get them started but the possibilities of a growing residual income make them worth the effort.

I know that when you mention network marketing to somebody that it will evoke every different emotion possible. Some people will become immediately turned off and claim that all of them are pyramid schemes while others will instantly pay more attention because they personally know someone who has generated additional income or wealth in network marketing. The truth of the matter is the landscape for network marketing has changed and its appeal is expanding daily. Many of us today enjoy many products we’ve bought from someone in network marketing such as candles, skin care, cosmetics, vitamin supplements and kitchen gadgets.

So why is the landscape changing for network marketing? Why is the industry experiencing continuous growth? I attribute most of this growth to a couple of strong forces.

1. A large scale lifestyle shift driven by the Baby Boomers
2. Endorsements validating the overall network marketing business model.

Let’s start with the lifestyle shift. For one, vibrant baby boomers can expect to live a long and active life long past retirement and most of them want to remain active while generating the income necessary to support their lifestyle. Unfortunately many of those close to retirement watched a lot of their golden year’s money diminish when stocks tanked in 2000 and they are now forced to generate additional income to help pay for retirement. In addition to the large portion of the population nearing retirement there was one event that influenced many to slow down and seek a wellness lifestyle. That event was 9/11. All of us were touched by the horrific events of 9/11 which demonstrated in a moment’s notice how everything one values in life such as time with our loved ones can be gone in an instant. More and more people desire to work for themselves in their own home business because it affords them the flexibility to spend more time with their family and friends or the opportunity to coach their child’s soccer team.

Some trends never change like the fact that 80% of all the millionaires are self employed. The self employed understand firsthand how to use the power of leverage to create wealth. You need to leverage either assets or the efforts of people (employees). This fact is drawing strong support for network marketing from the celebrity personal finance authors. Celebrity endorsements have come from David Bach (“The Automatic Millionaire”), Robert Allen, Mark Victor Hansen, and Robert Kiyosaki (“Rich Dad, Poor Dad”). When these authors speak people listen so you can start to see why interest in network marketing is growing more popular everyday. Add in to that mix well known economist Pilzner. Even the world’s greatest investor, Warren Buffet, helped further legitimize network marketing when Berkshire Hathaway purchased Pampered Chef and two other direct sales companies. You will even find some of the older network marketing companies actively traded on the NYSE or NASDAQ.

The bottom line is that network marketing is not just a legitimate business opportunity it’s a great home based business that can provide a rewarding lifestyle. So, if you haven’t looked at network marketing in the past, you just may want to.

Possessing a passion for small business and home businesses, Steve and his family run SafeHouse Farm Alpacas and Agel Chicago. Businesses like these were attractive not only for their financial potential but for the lifestyle they bring as well. There are plenty of home businesses out there like alpacas or the wellness products that are not only profitable but they're just a lot of fun and something that the whole family can do together.
